O Demeter

O Demeter, as your fiery nature reveals itself in Summer,

the strawberries ripen, their crimson-red skin, soft in my mouth.

The ocean, now more inviting than ever,

beckons with a wave from the East,

as seagulls dive from above to feast

on fries and abandoned litter.

O Demeter, please save us from your bushfire omens.

Most of us are making an effort,

to turn our carbon footprints into eco-tiptoes.

Let us enjoy the natural tans,

the foaming ocean splash, the salty wind,

let us hang onto the feeling that summer will last,

forever.
